TRD-200
Response Time and Flicker Detector
The TRD-200 is an optical instrument that is designed especially for response time and flicker measurements of flat panel displays such as cell phone and tablet displays, laptop displays, monitors, and LCD TVs.
The TRD-200 measures display response time and flicker and converts the time-varying luminance of a small measurement spot on the display into a signal that is digitized internally. The signal is transferred via USB to a PC and processed to determine response time and flicker using our RT-FL (Response Time & Flicker Kit) or our GL-RT (Gray Level Response Time) Kit.
Features
Measure response time and flicker
High-speed instrument for fast response times and flicker measurements
No oscilloscope required
Internal 500KHz digitizer with USB interface. No need for oscilloscope or data acquisition cards
PMT based detector with peak gain adjustments
Sensitive PMT based light detector with photopic filter and peak detect gain adjustment designed to work with blinking displays
Applications
Product testing for quality assurance and quality control
Response time and flicker measurements of cell phone displays, tablets, flat panel monitors, and LCD TVs for QA/QC.
Product R&D and engineering
LCD and OLED display response time measurements for R&D and engineering.

Powerful Temporal Response Detector
The TRD-200 includes internal data acquisition electronics which removes the need for data acquisition cards or digital oscilloscopes. The electronics provide control and data directly to a PC via a USB 2.0 bus. The TRD-200 uses a PMT based photo detector with microcontroller-based gain control, photopic filter, and collection optics. Key features include:
- High-sensitivity PMT-based detector
- C-mount for customizable optics
- Internal data acquisition and memory
- USB 2.0 interface
- Microprocessor controlled gain adjustment
- Peak detect gain adjustment – works with pulsed signals
- “Auto protect” shut down if PMT is saturated
Intuitive Signal Analyzer™ Software
The Signal Analyzer™ provides control of the TRD and a graphical display of the time and frequency domain response of the incident light signal. The software analysis of rise time and fall time and analysis of flicker including flicker weighted according to the EIA/ISO human flicker sensitivity function. Key data acquisition features include:
- 500KHz sample rate
- 16-bit A/D resolution
- 4 Mega-sample buffer
- Trigger with adjustable Trigger Level
- Positive / negative edge
- External trigger input (TTL)
- Peak detect gain adjustment – works with pulsed signals

Three Lens Options
The TRD-200 has a C-mount that can work with compatible optics of your choice or you can order a lens from us. We have three lenses available depending on your application.
FO: Fiber Optic
The “Fiber Optic” option uses a SMA-905 standard fiber optic coupler to receive the light signal from a fiber optically coupled (remote) source.
STD: Standard Objective Lens
The Standard objective lens and 1/16″ pinhole aperture with a working distance of 30 to 60 inches. Use the –STD input optics for most LCD types.
SAO: Slit Aperture Optics
The “Slit Aperture Optics” option uses a horizontal line aperture (slit mask emulation) instead of a circular spot. This allows a single display line to be measured and thus avoids Tr and Tf skew due to oversized spots. This adjustable-focus option is for LCDs with Tr and Tf specs less than 5 ms.
