EZwindow 221
EZwindow 121/221
Video Combiner
The EZwindow™ video combiner converts analog or digital video from multiple inputs into a common, synchronized output format, and then combines the video or blends video in one of a variety of user defined methods. Special attention has been given to minimize latency, while achieving broad area-of-interest control on inputs and outputs. In addition, EZwindow™ supports video overlays for specialty simulation applications.
Features
Video keying with blending
Alpha blend, RGB Key, HSV Key, and Luma Key
Video combining
Windowing, split screen, top-bottom, PIP, and more
Supports resolutions up to 2560x1600
Supports up to 2560×1600 dual link DVI displays
Independent output resolution and timing
Output resolution and timing is independent of input timings
Enhanced area-of-interest (AOI) control
User-definable AOI within each input, mapping of the AOI onto the output resolution, and output combining definition
Applications
Training and simulation environments
Combining multiple display images into a single instructor operator station (IOS) monitor feed in training and simulation environments
Combining HUD and out-the-window video
Combining HUD image with Out-the-Window video for a single projector
Educational environments
Combining multiple desktop images in educational applications
Real-time, minimal latency video combining applications
Any application that combines multiple video sources in real-time, with minimal latency and minimal video artifacts

EZwindow 221
Inputs
- 2 sets of 2 inputs with each input supporting up to WUXGA
- Each input can accept video in one of many formats, including: DVI-I (TMDS and analog RGB), RS-343, RS-170, NTSC, PAL, STANAG
Outputs
- 2 sets of 1 dual link DVI output up to 2560×1600
- Optional NTSC composite output with BNC
- Optional composite / component output with BNC pigtail cabling
Video Combining Capabilities
Alpha blend
Two video sources are mixed per a user defined ratio. This is the most common video blending technique.
RGB keying
HSV keying
Stereo mixing
Two video sources are synchronized, and then output as alternating fields. This is used for creating active stereo outputs from separate left and right sources. The output is synchronized to one of the inputs. 120 Hz operation is possible, at up to 165 MPixel/sec.
Windowing
Split screen
Powerful Configuration Utility
Use Westar’s EZwindow configuration utility to define the input timing, output timing, keying scheme, and the area-of-interest within the source video and where to map the AOI within the output resolution. The configuration utility supports user-defined:
- Input Timing and Output Timing
- Video Scaling and Area-Of-Interest (AOI)
- “Key” Processing
- Border Colors
- Image Flip (Horizontal and Vertical)
Example Applications
Keying on a video input to combine with 2nd input
In this example, an EZwindow-121 is used to key a live video feed (in the foreground) over the map graphic (in the background). Using HSV keying, the greenish area (as well as the black, non-active area) becomes transparent, thereby passing the background.
Combine 2 video feeds (left and right) into a alternating line 3D video
The EZwindow 121 is used to combine 4 a left image and a right image in an alternating line 3D image, appropriate for monitors using alternating line 3D optical films and passive 3D glasses.
Synchronize a monochrome video input with a second overlay video input
In this example, a EZwindow 121 synchronizes a monochrome video input with an overlay video input, then allows 3 monochrome outputs, each selectable between the monochrome video, the overlay video, or a combined image of overlay video + the monochrome video
