Applications

Simulated cockpit displays

Configurable video electronics for simulated cockpit displays

Ruggedized tactical displays

LCD controller for ruggedized tactical displays

Embedded applications

With its low-profile design the VP18E is ideal for space-constrained displays

Custom display solutions

Perfect for applications that require a configurable LCD controller

Video Combining up to UHD

The VP18E supports output resolutions up to 4K through HDMI and DisplayPort interfaces, with optional Quad LVDS (QLVDS) support for resolutions up to 2560 × 1600 and V-by-One HS support for resolutions up to 4K. Its flexible output architecture enables compatibility with a broad range of commercial and industrial display panels.

Tactical Commands

Tactical commands allow real-time update of a window’s source, that source’s area-of-interest, window size, location, rotation, and color adjustments. These commands are particularly useful for tactical displays requiring dynamic windowing. Tactical commands are defined in the VP18E Command Line Description.

Video Output Interfaces

  • HDMI and DisplayPort outputs support display resolutions up to 4K.
  • Optional Quad LVDS (QLVDS) output supports a wide range of panel configurations, including multiple LVDS pixel mappings, MSB-first and LSB-first bit ordering, and 3-, 4-, or 5-channel (pair) configurations per link.
  • Optional V-by-One HS output supports display panel resolutions up to 4K.

Video Conversion and Synchronization

  • Automatic detection of standard and customer-defined video resolutions
  • Free-running output or genlocked to an input port

Powerful Configuration Utility

The VP18E is configured via a PC application. VP18E Configure Application supports the setup of:

  • Output timing/electrical parameters and synchronization method
  • All inputs, including a prioritized list of all applicable video input modes that can be automatically detected for each input port
  • Up to 4 windows with mode dependent and mode independent parameters such as size, location, and input area-of-interest for each detected mode per window
  • Sequences for display initialization, loss of video, and video detection

All parameters are stored in non-volatile memory for automatic operation upon power up. The VP18E Configure application output is a .cfg file composed of VP18E commands. This file can be downloaded to the VP18E or saved on a PC.

Scaling, Windowing, and Area-of-Interest Control

  • Unlimited, independent horizontal and vertical scaling
  • Up to 4 windows with programmable size and position

Rotate video, flip left to right or top to bottom

  • Image can be reversed left to right and flipped top to bottom
  • Image can be rotated 90, 180, or 270 degrees

Optional keying with blending

An optional keying block supports RGB-keyed alpha blend and other techniques between a key plane and the background plane to form the visual plane. Keying is performed on the foreground layer, with programmable foreground and background alpha values for outside the key area, when key=true, and when key=false)

Automatic Video Input Mode Detection

The VP18E provides a comprehensive solution for applications requiring multiple video inputs and flexible multi-window display capabilities. With a dedicated 4K input, HDMI and DisplayPort inputs on Port 1, and optional interfaces available through Westar’s input mezzanine portfolio on Port 2 and Port 3, the VP18E supports a wide variety of video formats and resolutions simultaneously.

Each input port supports automatic video detection. Video sources can be assigned to one or more windows, enabling picture-in-picture, side-by-side, and other custom display layouts. Window size, location, scaling, rotation, and other display parameters can be independently configured for each video source.

At power-up, each input is automatically scanned and the active video format is detected. Once a valid source is identified, the VP18E applies the appropriate processing and displays the video according to the configured window layout, providing seamless operation across multiple input types and display configurations.
